The Temple of Confucius
Located on Guozijian Street inside Anding Gate, the Temple of Confucius in Beijing is the place where people paid homage to Confucius during the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). The Temple of Confucius was initially built in 1302 and additions were made during the Ming and Qing dynasties. It has a total area of 22,000 square meters (5.4 acres). It is the second largest temple constructed for Confucius, the greatest thinker and educationalist in ancient China, ranking only behind the Temple of Confucius in Qufu, Shandong Province.
This temple consists of four courtyards. The main structures include Xianshi Gate (Gate of the First Teacher), Dacheng Gate (Gate of Great Accomplishment), Dacheng Hall (Hall of Great Accomplishment) and Chongshengci (Worship Hall). Dacheng Hall is the main building in the temple, where the memorial ceremony for Confucius was often held. Inside the temple one can see that 198 stone tablets are positioned on either side of the front courtyard, containing 51,624 names of Jinshi (the advanced scholars) of the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. Also 14 stone stele pavilions of the Ming and Qing dynasties hold the precious historical information of ancient China.
In the temple, you can also find remarkable pictures like two flying dragons playing a pearl among clouds, which are believed to be used only in the imperial palaces because dragon stands for emperor in ancient China. From those, it is easy to imagine the importance of the Confucius Temple in the feudal society of China.

The Summer Palace- private guide beijing
The Summer Palace or Yihe yuan is a palace in Beijing, China. The Summer Palace is mainly dominated by Longevity Hill (60 meters high) and the Kunming Lake. It covers an expanse of 2.9 square kilometers, three quarters of which is water. The central Kunming Lake covering 2.2 square kilometers was entirely man made and the excavated soil was used to build Longevity Hill. In its compact 70,000 square meters of building space, one finds a variety of palaces, gardens, and other classical-style architectural structures.
The Summer Palace started out life as the Garden of Clear Ripples in 1750 (Reign Year 15 of Emperor Qianlong). Artisans reproduced the garden architecture styles of various palaces in China. Kunming Lake was created by extending an existing body of water to imitate the West Lake in Hangzhou. The palace complex suffered two major attacks–during the Anglo-French allied invasion of 1860 (with the Old
Summer Palace also ransacked at the same time), and during the Boxer Rebellion, in an attack by the eight allied powers in 1900. The garden survived and was rebuilt in 1886 and 1902. In 1888, it was given the current name, Yihe Yuan. It served as a summer resort for Empress Dowager Cixi, who diverted 30 million taels of silver, said to be originally designated for the Chinese navy , into the reconstruction and enlargement of the Summer Palace.
In December 1998, UNESCO included the Summer Palace on its World Heritage List. It declared the Summer Palace “a masterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design. The natural landscape of hills and open water is combined with artificial features such as pavilions, halls, palaces, temples and bridges to form a harmonious ensemble of outstanding aesthetic value.” It is a popular tourist destination but also serves as a recreational park.
History
When the Jin Dynasty emperor Wányán Liàng moved his capital to the Beijing area, he had a Gold Mountain Palace built on the site of the hill. In the Yuan Dynasty, the hill was renamed from Gold Mountain to Jug Hill (Weng Shan). This name change is explained by a legend according to which a jar with a treasure inside was once found on the hill. The loss of the jar is said to have coincided with the fall of the Ming Dynasty as had been predicted by its finder.
The Qianlong Emperor of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), who commissioned work on the imperial gardens on the hill in 1749, gave Longevity Hill its present-day name in 1752, in celebration of his mother’s 60th birthday. The hill is about 60 meters (196.9 feet) high and houses many buildings positioned in sequence. The front hill is rich in the splendid halls and pavilions, while the back hill, in sharp contrast, is quiet with natural beauty.

History of Beijing Hutongs
Hutong is a narrow lane among courtyards. The history of hutongs can be traced back to Yuan Dynasty (1271 – 1368) when Beijing was the capital. After the establishment of Yuan authority, the nobles and heroes were pleased to be awarded with certain pieces of land as feudal estates. They actively built houses and courtyards which were arranged in order around water wells. The passages between houses were left in consideration of light and ventilation and convenient right-of way. Though these countless passages crisscrossed the old capital like a chessboard, there were only 29 of them called hutong. Because city planning was very strict at that time, the roads which measured 36 meters (39.4 yards) wide were called main streets. The 18-meter (19.7-yard)-wide roads were named side streets and those nine meters (9.8 yards) wide or less were designated as hutongs
Hutongs were also places where grain was stored to satisfy the needs of the royal court and armies and to feed the starving people in lean years. For example, Lumicang Hutong became famous because it was the location of Lumi Grain Depot. Lumi Grain Depot was built in the Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644) and measured over 200 meters (218.7 yards) long, covering half length of the Lumicang Hutong.
In the Ming (1368 – 1644) and Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1911), city planning was less strict. Stallholders squeezed in the residential districts, which made the hutongs differ in width from over six meters (6.6 yards) to less than one meter (1.1 yards). What’s more, hutongs at this time presented various appearances. Some hutongs, such as Koudai Hutong (Pocket Hutong) only had one entrance. Some hutongs, such as Jiudaowan Hutong (Nine Turning Hutong) had many twists and turns. Some hutongs even wound around a somewhat squared off circle like the Four Rings Hutong. Small retailers peddled their wares among the hutongs to satisfy people’s daily needs. The basic appearance of hutongs was generally formed during these periods.

Beijing Environment Official City Air Faces Crisis
Beijing Environment Official: City Air Faces Crisis
Beijing is facing its third air-pollution “crisis” of recent years and needs to crank up its efforts to cut emissions, beijing escort girls, a city environmental official said Monday, acknowledging a big metaphorical cloud hanging over the city.
Beijing faced air-quality crises in 1998 and ahead of the 2008 Olympics, and it now faces another that it needs to address by cutting emissions, Du Shaozhong, deputy head of the Beijing Environmental Protection Bureau, said at a forum about how Chinese government offices can make use of microblogging services like the popular Sina Weibo.
Beijings air has improved significantly since 1998, but the city can still cut emissions from sources including automobiles, coal-burning, industry and dust, Mr. Du said. (Beijing has been notorious for its dust storms, fueled by an expanding desert farther west in China.)
Though Beijings skies have been fairly blue in the last few days, the recognition of a need for improvement might hearten residents of a city that is sometimes beset by darkness at noon. Mr. Dus comments follow years of Chinese officials downplaying the soupiness of Beijings air. The inky dark clouds that loom over the city on too many days represent for many Beijingers the disconnect between official statements and the reality of life in Chinas capital.
But Mr. Du didnt elaborate on measures that Beijing may be planning, and he was dismissive of the idea that air-pollution readings released by the U.S. Embassy in Beijing could bring pressure on the government.
Mr. Du declined to say if he thinks Beijing should monitor and release data for smaller particulate matter in the air, as the U.S. embassy in Beijing does.
Authorities in Beijing and most other Chinese cities measure air pollution by counting only particles between 2.5 and 10 micrometers in diameter. But the U.S. embassy, which broadcasts readings from its own pollution-monitoring equipment through Twitter, counts particles smaller than 2.5 micrometers. Experts say those particles make up the most of the citys air pollution and cause more damage to the lungs. While Twitter is blocked in China, third-party developers have used the embassys feed to build mobile apps that are accessible inside the country.
The embassys numbers have sparked much discussion online, including on Sina Weibo. That didnt seem to faze Mr. Du, who praised Weibo as a good channel through which to hear public comments and to express personal opinions, and said improving Beijings air will in itself reduce public attention to pollution readings.
Mr. Dus remarksand his own use of Sina Weibo, where he has more than 111,000 followers reflect how Beijing is working to use the Internet to its advantage, as a tool to help publicize government positions, even as it also ensures that sensitive content posted by normal Internet users content online is systematically censored.
Mr. Du said he isnt worried that the U.S. embassys pollution readings could undermine Chinese citizens trust in their government. “Which pollutants we monitor is based on what is needed for preventing atmospheric pollution, not on what an embassy is doing,” Mr. Du said.
“Whether [citizens] trust the Chinese government, that depends on what things you are doing. I at least have self-confidence about that,” he said.

I loved massage beijing
Sit down, Stan,” Winona says, “and tell us about that wonderful old building you renovated.”
Stan orders a round of beers for the students, a Singapore Sling for himself, and tells the students that he didn’t really know his building was significant until after he bought it.
“The real estate people told me it was designed by a famous architect,” Stan says, “but I didn’t pay much attention to that at first shanghai massage. You just don’t expect to find anything important in downtown Newark. Some people want to put it on the register of historic places, but I’m not too interested in that yet. For heaven’s sake, I’d never be able to do anything with it then. To me, it was just a good place to put my massage practice. But I have developed an interest in Louis Sullivan.”
After the students drink five more rounds and discuss with Stan how important massage in shanghai, touch is as a form of communication and why good architecture can be a form of therapeutic massage, they ask him for a late-night tour of his building. So he loads everyone into his Jeep Cherokee and heads back to Newark. It’s dark on the square, but the floodlights Stan mounted on the building illuminate it pretty well.
“It’s gray terra cotta,” Winona says, pointing to a large cluster of ornamental leaves and vines that grow from a thin pilaster and spread across the front of the building.
“Look at the tile work of shanghai escort,” Stan says. “I’ve tried not to cover it up with my sign.”
The students look up above the leaves and see a large triangle made of tiny ceramic squares. The pieces are mostly blue and green, but there’s {also additionally ,}some red, brown, and yellow cemented around the edges for good measure. In the middle of the triangle, in large gold lettering, is the name of the bank: THE OLD HOME.
Eric, one of the fraternity boys, says that the triangle reminds him of a pyramid. “It’s all so eclectic,” he says. “It’s ornate, yet sort of simple. It’s nineteenth century in sentiment, shanghai massage yet post-modern in terms of line. And I like the hint of the ancient Egyptian. It gives the whole thing an air of mystery.”
When Eric finishes talking, he throws up his beer and goldfish on the sidewalk, leaving a dull orange puddle near the door. Stan looks at the mess and thinks that Eric’s puke must smell much like the embalming fluid used by ancient Egyptian morticians. Then, he takes a white handkerchief from his pocket, wets it with his spit, and wipes off Eric’s mouth.
“If your digestive system keeps acting up,” Stan says, “you ought to come back next week beijing escort and let me give you a treatment.”
Stan leads the students in through the back door and flips on the lights. “The rest room is over there,” he says. “I think it used to be the bank vault.”
They line up to empty their bladders then walk up the stairs single-file massage beijing to the third floor. Stan grabs a bottle of cheap Scotch and hands it to Winona. The students pass it around as they look at the apartment. “Originally, this was office space beijing massage for the bankers,” Stan says, “but after my divorce, I decided to use it as a place to live.” The apartment is actually just one big room, divided here and there by shelving units, a couch, and a large table. In the far corner, close to a big TV screen, is a queen-size platform bed and a small roll-away. Winona stretches out on the roll-away for a few minutes and yawns.
“Who sleeps here on this little bed?” she asks.
“My daughter,” Stan says. “She visits every other weekend beijng massage. She’d be a big fan of yours if she met you.”
The second floor is filled with air-conditioning duct work that Stan installed. But the red circles, yellow stars, and turquoise triangles that Sullivan designed and had stencilled on the walls massage beijing and ceiling are still visible. Stan slides his hand along a wide strip of dark wooden molding that surrounds one of the leaded-glass windows. “I did try to save some of this,” he says. “Sullivan was a stickler for detail. He even had wood venetian blinds to match the molding, but a lot of those have been lost.”
Back downstairs, the students poke their heads into one of Stan’s treatment rooms and become intrigued with a black porcelain object that’s bolted to the wall and attached to two water lines running up to it from the floor. A canvas hose is coiled in a tight circle and hangs from three rubber hooks embedded in the porcelain. Right above the hose are lots of gaugesmassage in shanghai, dials, and knobs, one of them with a big red warning label stuck under it.
“What the fuck is this thing?” Eric says. “It looks like something a car mechanic would use to back-flush your radiator.”
“I saw it when I was in here before,” Winona says. “I think it’s some kind of enema machine, but I was afraid to ask.”
“It’s my colonic irrigation equipment. It can be quite effective for certain people with diverticulitis, toxic livers, acute menstrual discomfort, things like that.” Stan thumbs through a stack of brochures massage in shanghaithat are lying on a table and finds one called “Colonic Therapy and You.” He hands it to Winona.
“You really stick this thing in people’s bodies?” Eric fingers the plastic nozzle that’s screwed to the end of the hose. It’s thin and tapered like a pair of needle-nose pliers.
“For heaven’s sake,” Stan says, “the nozzle itself never touches human tissue, not even when I’m giving a treatment to Louis Sullivan.”
